This building stands on the ruins of a Roman Villa from the second century AD. Construction of the fortified building began around the year 1000 but it was further extended and modified by several owners until between the 15th and 17th centuries when it was occupied, alternately, by the armies that fought at the border between the Republic of Venice and the Duchy of Milan. In 1862 the castle was bought by Giacomo Silvestri who renovated it. Today it has a dual aspect: the part facing west, the entrance, recalls the austerity of the fortified construction; whereas to the east the changes made in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries give the idea of a noble country residence. The prospects overlooking the inner courtyard have tall windows framed by colourful frescos.
